Snowy Owls

Welcome to Snowy Owls!

The Spring Term has started with a bang! We have been excited to make our bread and write instructions. We have been learning about The Great Plague in History and all about the United Kingdom in Geography. We have some lovely learning activities planned linked to our topics as well as an educational visit to The National Emergency Services Museum after February half term.

You will recieve a weekly email with more information about the Know 3 Homework. Spellings are activities linked to our phonics and we practice these in class too. Please support your child as much as you can with spellings, homework and reading.

2026 is the National Year of Reading and in Snowy Owls we love reading books together. Our class owl will be sent home to share stories with your child, please snap a picture and email it to me and return the bag, books and fluffy owl so another pupil can do the same.

Please see some important information below:

Homework and spellings

Homework and spellings will be set every Friday and will need to be completed and handed in by the following Thursday. This routine will help the children and encourages independence as they go through year 2. Please encourage your child to establish a consistent homework and spelling routine to reinforce their classroom learning.

P.E.

PE will take place on Mondays. On these days, please ensure your child comes to school in the correct PE kit. It is also important that on these days, they do not wear any jewellery or cover with plasters and shoulder length hair to be tied back.

Reading

Reading is a key part of school life and early reading is the start of a wonderful journey into discovering a whole new world of stories, facts and adventures.

We will be continuing our reading adventure with our very own snowy owl, Fluffy, who will be coming home with your child to share a reading book of their choice with Fluffy, in a place of their choice. All we ask is that you snap a picture of your child reading with the owl and email it to school - look out for a text and the bag coming home very soon!

Remember every Tuesday we change our books as it is Choosy Tuesday.

To support your child in their reading we encourage you to listen to them read as often as you can and make a note in their reading records on how they did.

Reading will be individual at the beginning or end of the term and all other reading will be in a guided group session.

More books for reading can be found here https://schoolreadinglist.co.uk/reading-lists-for-ks1-school-pupils/suggested-reading-list-year-2-pupils-ks1-age-6-7/

If you have any questions or queries please get in touch via the school office.

Many thanks for your continued support

Mrs Potton
