Spirituality
As a church school and a place where everyone can flourish, we aim to create an environment that will nurture people’s minds, bodies and souls. We believe that spirituality should influence all areas of education and life. Therefore, we ensure that throughout the curriculum there are rich, deep thinking opportunities which contribute to pupils’ spiritual development.
Spiritual development relates to fundamental questions about the meaning and purpose of life, which affect everyone, and is not dependent on a religious affiliation.
As a church school, we are guided by the Christian faith and Christian values, which Christians hold dear. However, we truly welcome all and we openly encourage children to reflect in the way that suits them best, enabling them to participate in an ongoing process of spiritual realisation and to flourish in a way that will help them find peace, comfort and strength throughout life's ever-changing journey.
Spirituality at our school is rooted in shared values that help every child grow as a whole person. Children are encouraged to explore our amazing world with wonder and wisdom, learning to appreciate diversity, care for creation, and seek peace in their relationships with others. Through reflection and mindfulness, they explore inside their own heart, developing faithfulness to what is right, kindness towards themselves and others, and the courage to express their feelings and beliefs. Pupils are also inspired to explore how to make a change, acting with hope and compassion, understanding that their choices and actions can make a positive difference in the school community and beyond.
At our school, we nurture children’s spiritual development through both planned moments of spirituality and meaningful ad hoc opportunities that arise naturally throughout the day. Planned moments—such as Collective Worship, reflection times, celebrations of different faiths, and curriculum‑based learning—give pupils regular, structured chances to pause, think deeply, and connect with their beliefs, values, and sense of belonging. Alongside this, we value ad hoc moments of spirituality: those spontaneous, heartfelt experiences that occur when children ask thoughtful questions, share personal reflections, respond to world events, or encounter something inspiring in the classroom or wider school environment. By embracing both approaches, we create a rich spiritual atmosphere where children learn to reflect, wonder, appreciate diversity, and develop a sense of meaning and connection in their daily lives.
